Joya Scott is a stage director currently in her third-year of the Masters of Fine Arts program at Arizona State University’s Herberger Institute School of Theatre and Film. She is also a co-founder of festina lente, a newly minted, Phoenix-based theater and multidisciplinary arts collective.

Prior to graduate school, Joya lived in New York City where she worked as a freelance director and cofounded an off-off-Broadway company, Emergency Theater Project. She has also served as an assistant director with Atlantic Theater Company and an assistant director/dramaturg with Potomac Theatre Project. Joya earned her BA in theatre
magna cum laude from Middlebury College. She has attended both the Lincoln Center Directors Lab (2005) and the LaMaMa International Symposium for Directors in Umbria (2010).

Joya has made theater in Phoenix, New York, Washington DC, Vermont, Massachusetts, the Czech Republic, and Italy.
